Village Bakery, based in Wrexham, is a company with a long legacy in UK food manufacturing. Having been active since 1934, and with one of its pioneers recently being awarded an MBE for his contributions to the industry, Verto are proud to include a company with such a storied history in our portfolio. Marked by their innovative approach to baking, but also their friendly and welcoming corporate culture, when they approached us to design their new website we had some fantastic ideas that we wanted to put into action.
The previous Village Bakery website was already outdated by the time we began working on the project, and needed a real visual uplift to highlight the growth that the company had experienced in the past few decades and their recent innovations. We achieved this with a suite of video clips that were supplied by the client, showcasing the scale of Village Bakery’s premises, its workflow, and the company culture, all in one easily digestible visual experience.
Aside from the showstopper on the homepage, the client wanted to move away from the highly corporate style of their competitors, looking to create a simple and functional information site that allowed them to tell their story in their own way. Another goal was to make the website a hub for recruiting new staff in the local areas to support their growth.
Some of the ways that we achieved these goals included creating immersive, interactable ribbons across the website that lead to the recruitment portion of the website; providing flexible templates across their news, product and history sections, allowing them to fill their pages with authentic and eye-catching images; and keeping a consistent design philosophy across the site, integrating stylised representations of nature and a down-to-earth colour scheme.
